Celebrating a Milestone

It started with a “leap of faith” in 1998 when I left the island of Palm Beach for a new adventure “over the bridge” in West Palm Beach. The timing seemed right and with the belief that you must never look back, only forward,  Kaffee’s Garden Spa was born!

The staff consisted of one. Just me. The front door was locked and when the next client arrived they would knock on the window to announce their arrival! But the evolution into a full service Day Spa happened quickly. In early 2000 the opportunity to add the adjacent space gave us the ability to add hair services, create our Relaxation Room and a dedicated Pedicure area with a garden view. In late 2014 our Salt Room was open and we were complete!

During these 20 years I have had the privilege to work with so many talented and dedicated therapists and cosmetologists. Many chose to make the Garden Spa their home for many years. It is these core staff members, past and present, who have made these years a joy and branded us for what we are known for… excellent Spa Treatments and Beauty Services! We are proud to have created a Spa “Community” which allows our regulars to feel like they are coming home each time they visit. Our treatments are designed to have a positive impact on the recipients. We are in the fortunate position of having the honor to administer them. I thank you for your trust and loyalty. It is because of YOU that we have flourished.

As we enter our 20th year my question is; What can we do to maximize our offerings to meet and exceed your needs?

With Great Appreciation,

Kaffee Keldie

Spa and Wellness Month in Palm Beach

West Palm Beach: Kaffee’s Garden Spa
Posted on Aug 24 2017 – 9:42pm by Cristyle

cristyle 2017

I visited Kaffee’s Garden Spa this week in anticipation of “Spatober” coming to the Palm Beaches in October. Spas throughout the area will be offering fantastic packages and deals for the month.
For more info visit: Spatober.com
Located just off Southern and US1 the spa is quiet and inviting with a small waiting area lit with a glowing salt crystal. Hot teas and water are available while you rest. The staff is warm and engaging and has put together the perfect blend of pampering for their October deal.

Discover Spa and Wellness: Start your spa and wellness experience with a 45-minute massage using warm Himalayan salt stones in our serene and beautiful Salt Room while inhaling the healing benefits of dry salt therapy. Next receive an expert manicure in the Garden Salon. Guests have the option to add a 50-minute facial treatment, which includes a skin analysis, deep cleanse, light exfoliation, essential oil infused facial compresses, mask and rehydration. Gratuity included. The spa will donate 5 percent of each service to charity.
Cost: $225 (massage, manicure and facial) or $140 (massage and manicure)

I started off my visit with a massage by Stacy. The massage room is beautiful with a backlit Himalayan pink salt wall and warming salt rocks. As the lights dim the glow of the wall is tranquil and relaxing. A state of the art Halogenerator produces a micronized aerosol of purified salt mist that flows into the room providing health benefits to the respiratory system and skin. The room features 2 tables for a couples massage option. Stacy is a fantastic therapist with strong hands and a lovely personality. She used the hot salt rocks during my massage and it was delightful.

My next stop was a manicure with Samantha in the Garden Salon. They offer a variety of colors with lines like Essie, Zoya and Duri. There were also spa pedicure chairs and a hairstylist for those looking for the head to toe experience. Samantha has been in the industry for decades, clearly loves her job and takes great pride in her work.

My final treatment was a facial with Kaffee, the owner. She uses a variety of products including Circadia, Jurlique, Dermalogica and Aromandina essential oils. I enjoyed chatting with her about the history of the spa while she worked wonders on my skin.
Kaffee began her career in California before building a client base in Palm Beach. She made the move across the bridge from the island about 20 years ago. Taking over the spa on her own she grew the business from the days of having to lock the front door while she was in a service to taking over the entire building and having a team of stylists, technicians and therapists.

While the spa has a quaint, homey feel she is definitely on the cutting edge when it comes to products, techniques and offerings. She even developed an aloe hydrating fluid that is to die for and available for purchase in her shop (look for the blue bottle).
I loved discovering this gem in Palm Beach County and look forward to future visits – especially to the beautiful salt massage room! In the meantime, I have my trusty blue bottle to keep my skin glowing.

Our Relaxation Room just got more Relaxing!

Just in time for Valentine’s Giving.

Take Relaxing to a New Level at Kaffee’s Garden  Spa

Discover A.R.T. on the comfortable lounger in our Relaxation Room

What is Acoustic Resonance Technology (A.R.T.)?

Acoustic Resonance Technology creates an environment for the body and mind to be able to experience the benefits of sound healing in a more integrative way. Feeling the music you hear provides an opportunity to come into harmony physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and environmentally through stimulating all our senses. This entrainment and alignment of our mind and body can expand our awareness. When we begin to listen and feel the music we naturally relax into the harmonic flow.

  • a•cous•tic (-kstk); adj. also a•cous•ti•cal (-st-kl): Of or relating to sound, the sense of hearing, or the science of sound. Designed to carry sound.
  • Resonance comes from the Latin verb resonare, meaning to “return to sound”. In physics, “the response of an object or a system that vibrates in step with an externally applied vibration.”

The brain sends and receives messages from the rest of the body constantly. Our brains and all the systems of our body are in a communication dance. The brain is constantly receiving information from the skin, bones, muscles, nerve cells, our hormones, etc. The stress hormone, simply put, limits the communication and eventually inhibits the functioning of the immune system. Therefore if we stay in a continual state of stress, we reduce our ability to fight disease. When we relax and move into a state of listening, and feeling joy, we stimulate pleasure hormones or endorphins that strengthen the energy dance within us.

Acoustic Resonance Technology helps stimulate the natural relaxed state of body and mind. It “re-minds” us of our natural Harmonic state. Welcome to the brilliance of alternative health care! All you have to do is get comfortable on this ergonomic lounge chair and tune into the music…your body intuitively does the rest.

Prolonging Youthfulness

A–Chair–IMG_5707 (1).jpg

Let’s face it. Ours is a youth oriented culture. We hear the saying “Oh to be young again!”, then look in the mirror and wonder where did those lines and that sagging jawline come from. There is a plethora of information and choices on what has become known as Anti-Aging. But with every breath we take, oxidative stress is aging us. Science has shown that we can slow aging down with a number of approaches. Which includes antioxidants to counter that oxidative stress, the new science of calorie restriction, hormone supplementation, fillers and of course, surgery and chemical peels. While research into some of these types of approaches continues, it is important to remember there is already plenty of research supporting the value of a healthy, balanced diet, physical activity and other   lifestyle choices which help delay or prevent age-related health issues. At Kaffee’s Garden Spa, this approach is referred to as prolonging youthfulness!

In every venue of our Boutique Day Spa we strive to offer treatments to meet this goal. Prolonging youthfulness is exactly what the remarkable SWiCH Treatment from Circadia Skin Care has the ability to do. First let’s discuss Skin Peels, the more well known approach to skin rejuvention. For over 40 years chemical peeling has been practiced to rejuvenate sun damaged skin. Many types of skin peelings exist including chemical, mechanical and thermal (or laser) modalities. The common thread tying these methods together is the ability of the skin to heal itself when damaged. All of these methods produce some degree of tissue destruction, which incites the natural repair process within the skin. Consistent damage to the epidermis, however, may lead to more serious side effects. In a skin that is already overtaxed, the use of these agents creates a greater demand on energy production. As our skin ages the energy production DECREASES, making it harder for the organ of the skin to counter balance these assaults. That is what is so revolutionary about The SWiCH Rejuvenation Treatment, is it now possible to achieve repair of the skin without having to induce tissue damage. The body’s repair systems, including that of the skin, are held in a ready state at all times. Understanding what is needed to trigger that system is the key to the efficacy of the SWiCH™. Any repair system requires a large input of energy. Biologically this is in the form of adenosine triphosphate, or ATP. When the active ingredient in the SWiCH solutions penetrate into the skin, the repair mechanism is switched on!  The energy from the ATP is supplied on the cellular level to rejuvenate – just as you flip a light switch to supply electrical energy to a bulb.

This treatment that forces the skin to repair from the inside out without damage at the surface.   We would like to have you experience the improvements to your skin with the recommended monthly SWiCH Treatment, along with a Circadia prescribed skin care protocol for home care  which gives you a boost to prolonging youthfulness. It might even make you friends with your mirror again!

Doctor Reviews Dry Salt Therapy

emily salt

Dry Salt Therapy is gaining popularity as a result of the many benefits for the Respiratory System and our bodies largest organ, the Skin. We always ask for feedback from our guests who have experienced the therapy with us. The most common answers are an improved ease in breathing, a sense of relaxation and improved sleep. But what are the medical doctors saying about this alterative therapy? The following was written by Pulmonary Specialist Dr Daniel Layish MD.

The word Halotherapy comes from the Greek word “halos” meaning salt. While the potential benefits and therapeutic nature of salt has been known for centuries, it was not until the early 1800’s that the underground salt mines throughout Eastern Europe were noted to benefit various respiratory conditions. As the workers were mining the salt in these climate-enriched chambers, dry salt particles would be inhaled into the respiratory system. The dry salt was discovered to be super absorbent, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. Soon people with various conditions were spending time in these salt mines. In the mid-1900’s the Russians began working on a technology to replicate the dry salt particles in the air and developed the first halogenerator, a device that grinds pure sodium chloride into precise micron sized particles and disperses the dry salt into a climate controlled room or chamber. This was the start of modern Halotherapy, which has been utilized for several decades throughout Eastern Europe and has begun to expand into many other countries including the United States and Canada. The small particle size is felt to be important to allow penetration deep into the lungs, since larger particles will simply be deposited in the nose, throat or large airways. The air in a halotherapy chamber is also filtered to remove contaminants and the temperature and humidity are well controlled.

As a pulmonologist, I initially became familiar with halotherapy through my care of individuals with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder characterized by dehydration of the respiratory epithelial surface, resulting in impaired mucociliary clearance. In this disorder, thick tenacious secretions obstruct the lower airway and sinuses and provide an environment for chronic infection. Nebulized hypertonic saline has been shown (in well done randomized clinical trials) to improve pulmonary function and respiratory symptoms as well as reduce pulmonary exacerbation rate in individuals with cystic fibrosis. This may be referred to as “wet” salt therapy as opposed to halotherapy which is “dry” salt therapy. Nebulized hypertonic saline can sometimes cause bronchospasm, and not all patients can tolerate this therapy even when premedicated with a bronchodilator. In cystic fibrosis, halotherapy has some theoretical advantages over nebulized hypertonic saline. The patient enters a room to receive the halotherapy typically in a 45-minute session. The prolonged duration of therapy appears to be associated with a much lower incidence of bronchospasm then is seen in the setting of nebulized hypertonic saline. In addition, in the halotherapy mode of administration the salt particles are delivered to both the sinuses and the lower respiratory tract. After seeing anecdotal benefit in our patients with cystic fibrosis, we performed a clinical study, which confirmed that this therapy was well tolerated and the patients derived symptomatic benefit in terms of their sinus complaints. Other studies are planned to study this therapy further in individuals with cystic fibrosis.

The fundamental defect in cystic fibrosis is related to chloride transport and therefore there is a strong rationale for halotherapy in this particular disease. Anecdotally, I have seen patients with other respiratory diseases derive significant benefit from Halotherapy including bronchiectasis, chronic bronchitis, chronic sinusitis and allergic rhinitis. The hypothesis is that Halotherapy may help with respiratory illnesses by liquefaction of airway secretions thereby enhancing expectoration. There seems to be very little risk to this therapy other than the financial and time investment. There is certainly a theoretical basis for the possible benefit of halotherapy, given the known antiinflammatory and anti-infective properties of salt. Currently, halotherapy is not covered by medical insurance companies. However, it is hoped that this may change as research is planned to try to prove the benefits that many patients have reported. Many halotherapy institutions offer a monthly pass that can make therapy more affordable than purchasing individual sessions. There is also an effort to develop systems that can deliver halotherapy in the home setting, avoiding the need to travel to a salt room. This is important since many people do not live close to a halotherapy center. It is worth noting that many patients have also noticed benefits in non-respiratory conditions, particularly dermatalogic conditions such as acne and psoriasis and research is planned in this area as well.

Reach out on Mother’s Day

Every year we set aside a special day to honor Motherhood. As we prepare to show appreciation for the  women in our lives, whether they are our biological moms, or women who hold a special place in your heart because of the motherly influence they have on us, I wanted to share some powerful thoughts written by Jessica Wolstenholm . Jessica Wolstenholm is an author and freelance writer who blogs about motherhood and life at graceformoms.com. I was touched by the variety of real situations that she defines in this complex relationship between mother and child. Take a moment to read and process her suggestions. There is a  message here for everyone:

Whether you walk extremely close or there’s a valley of difference between you, reach out to your mother this week.

Whether you see eye to eye or you can’t agree on much of anything, look your mother in the eyes if you can and tell her how special she is.

Whether she’s loved you well or lacked in affection, tell her how much you appreciate her and linger in love through words or embrace.

Whether she’s been your role model or she’s shown you what not to do, tell her how

much you’ve learned from her.

Whether she’s been a near perfect mother or a much less than perfect one, she’s still here and that fact alone leaves so much potential for you both.

Call her, embrace her, surround her with your love whether it comes easy or along with tons of baggage.

Reach out for reconciliation if you are estranged.

Reach out in compromise if you are indifferent.

Reach out with time and attention if you are busy.

Reach out with affection if you are reserved.

Reach out with generous love even if you already do it regularly.

Here is to finding a meaningful way to celebrate  Mother’s Day. We invite you to “reach out” by having a day together at Kaffee’s Garden Spa. A perfect way to say I love you, Mom!
